Rena Filstar XP API Filstar XP XP1 = 1 basket S= 1 basket XP2 = 2 baskets M= 2 baskets XP3 = 3 baskets L = 3 baskets XP4 = 4 baskets XL = 4 baskets

Q:I have an XP3 filter do you sell the rod for the impeller without the impeller?
Asked by: Robert

A: This only comes with a new rotor/impeller as provided by the manufacture Mars Fishcare/API. If the manufacturer ever sells it separately we would offer it.

Q:So the 722 impeller will fit my XP Filstar2?
Asked by: Marlene
- 10/6/2020
A: Yes. Please be advised that you will change the flow rate of your filter when you change the impeller. That is why we don't recommend going up or down in impeller size more than one step. The Filstar M should have either Filstar S or Filstar L rotor. Less flow with S rotor and more flow with L rotor.

A: When you purchase a motor you generally use all the parts from the old motor in the new motor. In your situation you are also mixing parts from two different filters, XP1 (S) and XP3 (L). This might work fine or you or you could end up with water flow too strong for the tank.
Below is a list of parts that go in the motor: Rotor Impeller (includes shaft and bearing) Impeller Cover Impeller Cover bearing

Q:HI, I have the filstar xp3. It has reduced output and there are no clogs or bends anywhere. Does this part always resolve that problem???
Asked by: jeff

A: Depends on the age. If it is more than 4 years old it could be the problem. The magnet gets weaker with age. But their are many causes for reduced. Visit our blog to find out more.

Q:Hi, When do you expect stock?
Asked by: Jon
- 7/26/2022
A: We had one left and it is back in stock. You can also use 722Q (identical) or the 723Q (give you slight more flow). These filters were discontinued 2-1/2 years ago and parts are becoming scarce.

Q:Hello, I need a new impeller for my Filstar L XP3. The photo of the impeller on your website does not match what I have. It is white, with six wider paddles. Would you please confirm I will get the correct one if I order? Thanks.
Asked by: Eric
- 2/5/2023
A: What you will get is essentially the rotor/impeller for Filstar XP2 (M). None of the most recent (red) rotors are available since the Filstar was discontinued in 2019. You could also buy the Filstar XP4 (XL) rotor which would give you slightly more flow.

Q:Hi, I have a medium filstar canister filter. Ive probably had it 15 or more years. It has been amazing and I hate to toss it out because a simple part could be replaced. What I've been experiencing lately is low output and intake. It doesn't seem to be sucking as much in or blowing as much out and the water is not of the best quality lately. I don't see any leaks. I don't see any bubbles. The hoses and everything appear to be intact. I have replaced the O-rings around the fill valve a while back for a different problem. The pump fills and primes properly it just doesn't seem to do much. The impeller spins just fine. I'm wondering however if they might go bad and cause these issues. I have a two basket system and I'm hoping to find some insight on what could be replaced as opposed to purchasing a whole other brand since these ones are no longer made. I wish they were! Thanx!

A: Your best place to get answers to this type question is from our blog on this site. Go Here: https://www.renaaquaticsupply.com/Filstar-Parts-API-Rena_c_21.html
If your filter is very old say more than 5 years old it would probably benefit from a new Rotor/Impeller. These lose 10-15% of their magnetic strength each year and this affects power.

Q:How soon will he Filstar L (XP3) Rotor Impeller Assembly For Rena/API Filstar L (XP3) Canister Filter be back in stock?
Asked by: Chris
- 7/16/2024
A: It is back in stock again. We have a very limited supply. FYI-Since this filter was discontinued more than 4 years ago parts are beginning to run out. You can use other Filstar Rotors and going up or down one size will usually work for most filter setups.

Q:Hi I’m looking for a filstar xp3 rotor, could I know if it’s available? Thanks
Asked by: Shabb
- 10/7/2024
A: This part is no longer available. Since the Filstar Range was discontinued no more have been made since 2019. You can use the only other rotor available. Item Number 720Q. This rotor was for the Filstar Small (XP1). Your flow will be reduced to around 200gph.
