Question

Q: is it possible to use a Medium canister in the Filstar XP small, swapping out the original small canister? The width dimensions look the same. Will the flow be adequate, unimpaired? Unit remaining in the same size aquarium. I'd like more capacity for the filter media.

You can do that but be aware of some potential issues. The filters are matched to the number of baskets for optimum flow through the filter. When you change something it may affect the flow. Also the more media you put in the canisters will slow the flow.
