Q: Several days ago, the Filstar XP4 replacement motor showed limited availability. Today it shows ETA 7 days. Is it possible to be contacted when it is back in stock? Is it possible to place an order that can be filled when it comes in? We currently have the complete unit and the motor stopped this week. We would love to just get the replacement motor instead of having to completely redo the filter system and piping. Please let me know if we have options or if we just have to watch the website. Q: Does this piece include the electrical cord? My filstar’s power cord seems to have gone bad or the motor has died, not sure which.

The entire range of Filstar filters has been discontinued by the manufacturer, Mars Fishcare. Major parts such as motors have very limited availability. My suggestion would be to buy the API Filstar L motor instead. Save money and get the same flow (or very close) to the original motor. Just take the old impeller out and place in the new motor.

The electrical cord is permanently attached. If the cord is damaged then the motor must be replaced. Otherwise, just take out the rotor/impeller and inspect for damage. Clean out the rotor well and reassemble the motor. Plug it into an outlet and see if the rotor spins. If it does, your are good to go. Also see are blog for Q&A on these issues.
